Does India need Revolution to clean its Politics?

The unprecedented uprising in several countries of the middle-east has changed the face of democracy in the world, forever. Thousands of citizens began taking to the streets to protest poverty, rampant unemployment, government corruption, autocratic governance and brought the decades old dictatorial regimes to an end. Primarily driven by the new generation, the protesters used new-age tools to organize themselves and demanded political and social reforms.

These demonstrations sent a clear signal that people are waking up to freedom, equality and good governance. It also sent a strong message that the governments across the world cannot take their power and position for granted.

India, today is faced with multitude of problems from rising prices to corruption, from unemployment to poverty. A revolution in another part of the globe has triggered a thought if time has come for the Indians to start asking for transparency and accountability in governance through a revolution?

In light of this, Ahmedabad-based think-tank Research Foundation for Governance in India is organising a talk by Lord Meghnad Desai. Lord Desai is an internationally-acclaimed economist and Professor Emeritus, London School of Economics. The talk will be on 'Does India need a Revolution to clean up its politics?' and will take place from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA).
